Interview with Jacee
Interviewer: Hello, my name is Ahmed. I have
homework for my English class and I am here today to ask
you some questions and
then I will write a report for my professor.

about yourself?

thirdly year in SCSU, and my major is Finance. After I graduate I will looking
for a job and try to work here about two years, because for the business major
work experience is much important, so if I do have job that will easy to get a
fat salary job in my country.
Interviewer: How do you communicate with each
other in your home country?
Interviewee: Same as the US we use phone call,
online talk, and e-mail, but these are new communicate ways, in our country the
most tradition communicates is in dining time. In our country people usually
will talk their things during dining time, and we also have many table manners,
like first time meet, business cooperation, ask somebody for help, etc. Because
we believe in dining time people will feel more comfortable and their

is the clothing style for men and women?
Interviewee: Right now is same as the US; do
not have very specific style. But for the past I mean for the traditional
cloths, man usually dress robe, long gown and also have long hair. Women are
dress lorgnette or silk cloth, and adorn much jewelry. For these traditional cloths we call Han Chinese
Clothing Last we look up to men and down on women, because for the past people
do not have high productivity.
Interviewer: How are women and men treated
differently?
Interviewee:
Men are the most manpower in family; men could work more and earn more. For
women, at past because of our tradition usually they just stay at home, cook
food, clean house and take care of child. But now, after the economy improve,
men and women their social status are almost equality. And right now for some
of way women are getting higher status, like they are easier to get a job, many
company need and hire women more than men.
Interviewer: How has your experience helped
you to interpret and respect cultural differences?
Interviewee: Here's experience let me got
culture shock at first, but now I know every culture have their own
characteristic, and this is why we call it different culture, Also after I

along with American people, and how is their different holidays real meaning.
So, I respect them, even some of it I still cannot accept, like drinking ages.

skill of communication, and I am very enjoying connecting and having new
friends.
Interviewer: How long have you been in the
United States?
Interviewee: About 4 years. And I spend two
years in IEC studied English before I went to university, and I have to say the
time that I studied in IEC was very wonderful experience, one the one hand I am

other parts of the United States?

place; especially California State let me feel an exotic atmosphere.

major religions?

country we do not have major religions; many young people do not have a
religion. But for Buddhism and Taoism these two still are religion for some
people.
Interviewer: What
influenced you to come to the United States? Especially, Saint Cloud.

not want to take the college entrance examination in my country, and my family
want me to abroad this is the most important reason, the US study environment
is better for me. And why SCSU? Because my intermediary advise me to here, and
the tuition of SCSU is cheaper than other school.

country and how do people celebrate them?

Preparations for
interview
In my first interview first I
was a little bit nervous because it is something new. I am interested in China
and its culture. I made an appointment with my class mate Jacee. Also, I
brought the ten core questions from the class plus five questions of mine to
ask my interviewee. My points were to learn some information about my classmate
and some traditional things such as clothing, food, transportation, and
economy. I prepared my iPhone five to record the conversation, so it will be
easy for me to listen to the audio at any time later.
How did you
approach people?
I have asked my classmate
Jacee and two other chines students who were my classmates in the IEC. I was
lucky because they all agreed to make the interview. I made schedule with them
and we did choose a place to meet in every time.
How did you
conduct the interview?
I conduct the interview with
Jacee at the library. I went to the library fifteen minutes before the meeting
time. It was at 3:00pm. The reason why I went to the library early was to look for
a nice spot. I started the recording and we began the interview directly when
Jacee arrived because he is my classmate and he already knows about the whole
process. After doing the interview I told Jacee that I am interested to learn
about the chines culture more than doing the interview by its self.
Whom did you
interview?
I interviewed Jacee. He is
form China. He is 26 years old. His major is Finance. He wants to work for two
years after getting his bachelor degree.
Describe the
interview?
I think that I did well in my
first interview. I have learned more about the chines culture. Something
interesting for me was how Chinese people are kind and friendly. Jacce helped
me to make the interview in easy way. He came on time. Also, he answered my
questions with no problems. Finally, I hope that my next two interviews will go
well like the first one.

The Challenges and Benefits Tuesday, October 1, 2013
African Culture
I am interested in African culture. First I am going to summarize it from one book and then I'll expand the topic with two different books and two different websites. In my research I will includ two points in African culture which are; the bus stations and how it's related to religion, events and time in African culture.
What does the bus station in Accra look like? It is colorful and there is music. The buses like the circus wagons. It is not like the nice truck that we see in the street. The buses have a wooden body with open walls. they are painted with deferent colors and also decorated with some flowers and words. the words meant to "offer important encouragements, they have to do with good, mankind, guilt, taboos." The Sipritual world in Africa believs in the coxistence of three different related wolds. The firs one is the one that surrounds us, people animals and plants. The second is the world of those who died before us and they continue to exist. The third world is the rich kingdom of the spirits that exist in everything and everywhere. Inaddition, God stands on all these three worlds. So the bus inscriptions mean " God is everywhere."
While I only summarized the topic of African Culture above, I expanded on the concept with some additional research. I found the book" The Mind of Africa" edited by W.E Abraham.Forthermore, the African culture contact with Eruope and Middle East. Also, with some different religions there. It says that there are two kind of people there. One is the faithfull people who believes in God and that they are protected everywhere and the other who does not believe and they parctice their lives as usual. I also found a book"Time in african culture." edited by John .W. In the African culture there is a gap in education between adult genreration and youth. They practice sociopolity and religious institutions and that ensure the communication between generation.
I also expended my research with two websites. According to the first website I used,"The term “African Traditional Religion” is used in two complementary senses. Loosely, it encompasses all African beliefs and practices that are considered religious but neither Christian nor Islamic." The secon website contains on time in African culture. Africans have a totally different perception of time than Westerners. In traditional African culture time is a chain of events.
So, the book that I used to write my research talked about african and how they show their believes in God and God is everywhere. I summarized this and then I expanded my research with two other books. all of the books talked about africa and how is african culture. I continued this with two other websites. the first one mentiones the religions in africa. The secon one contains on african events and how are they different from westerners.
